Silsila is forced to make a choice between his life and his world. Silsila's world, and all the people who grew up with it, face extinction. But reality dawns on him when he is apprehended in a case of murder, extortion and bribery where he was hardly aware of things. Silsila is unaware of the larger consequences as he carries out his orders without question. Traffic signals series#Haji must play a dangerous game where he is forced to invoke the unwitting pawn, Silsila, to start a series of events that could ultimately destroy the traffic signal. Unbeknownst to Silsila, Haji bhaijaan is part of a larger nexus of evil that comprises politicians and the larger Mafia. The initial fireworks blossom into deeper companionship with Silsila. A gentle girl, Rani ( Neetu Chandra), arrives at the signal to sell ethnic clothes. Silsila reports into a mid-level don, Jaffar, who in turn reports to the big boss Haji bhaijaan. He is an ideal manager: sensitive and caring of his workers yet ruthless when it comes to delivery. He ran various trades there before he became the manager. They owe allegiance and hafta (weekly "protection" fee) to the signal manager, Silsila ( Kunal Khemu). They speak quickly, act fast and operate somewhat honourably (with each other) to eke a meager living out of the harsh Mumbai street life. There are beggars (kids and adults), prostitutes, tricksters, eunuchs and others who sell clothes, flowers and trinkets. The traffic signal includes a microcosm of people who derive their daily livelihoods from it. Anybody who drives in Mumbai has experienced the 2-odd minute wait at a traffic signal. To report a malfunctioning traffic signal, please call 61 as soon as possible. This film is about the lives and travails of people living around a fictitious traffic signal in Mumbai. The Electrical Section relies heavily on the public to inform us when a traffic signal is out or malfunctioning. All the red signal indications and over 90% of the green indications have been converted to LED, saving the City over $800,000 annually in energy costs. Since 1997, the City of San Diego has converted more than 32,000 incandescent lights to LED. Lights on major thoroughfares are programmed to stay green longer during peak travel times (rush hour). The computer observes the amount of traffic flow and can trigger the lights for cross traffic. Each signalized intersection is run by its own computer similar in size to a 286 PC. In some areas, such as El Cajon Boulevard, Miramar Road, Mira Mesa Boulevard and Downtown, traffic lights are coordinated to facilitate commuter or otherwise heavy traffic flows on major streets. A point system, based on traffic flow and the accident rate at that intersection, is used to determine whether a signal is warranted. The process of determining where traffic signals are installed is a complicated one. The monitors are thoroughly inspected and tested annually. Safety monitors are installed at all intersections to prevent conflicting green lights from being displayed. All signalized intersections are on a quarterly preventative maintenance schedule. Our signal technicians work around the clock to keep the signals functioning properly. When there is a problem, we respond within one hour. Traffic signals are top priority for Street Division. There are over 1,500 signalized intersections within the City of San Diego.
